California may be laid-back, but that doesn't mean it's not busy thinking about how it looks. So expect that double truth to be in effect at the Malibu Inn, a well-traveled pool bar smack dab on the side of Pacific Coast Highway where bikers can get their brews and hungover Hollywooders can restart their engines. The fare is your standard beer pub fare -- burgers, sandwiches and appetizers, as well a nice tri-tip with mac and cheese -- but the prices aren't your father's watering-hole rates. This is Malibu, so expect to pay almost $20 for the tri-tip, but also expect to see a movie star or two, if not on the wall, which hosts a truckload of them in framed glass. Better yet, the Inn hosts live music on Fridays and Saturdays, from Steely Dan tribute bands to local rock, reggae and thrash acts. Image industries should always have roadside attractions like these. Pull over.
