A rarity in the hotel world, this chain hotel offers what many motels offered back in the days before interstate freeways, when people drove across country on roads like Route 66: a sense of mystery, an air of eccentricism. Who are the owners? What were they thinking? Dont worry -- the hotel definitely gives Best Western a good name. The weird part, however, comes first from the hotel's odd location on Sepulveda Blvd. near Pico in West LA, a convenient but unattractive spot, and secondly, what seems like a basic motel actually has a business center, suites with private Jacuzzis, a heated outdoor pool, a nicely-landscaped garden, even a billiards room. Sometimes you never know what you're going to get until you go inside and poke around a bit. -- Blair Mastbaum
