Though it's touted as a celebrity hangout, this Fairfax landmark is actually not the best place to stargaze. For one thing, the deli is so busy and the dining room so expansive, you might not spot a celeb even if one were in attendance. For another, the scene is much more neighborhood deli than hipster hang. People of all ages, income tax brackets, industries, and proclivities dine here, and customers pay little attention to their neighbors. Conversation is lively, but high-backed booths give you a sense of privacy. The dress code is incredibly casual, even by LA standards -- pajamas and slippers often seem to be the norm. The menu is vast and includes all New York/Jewish deli staples (chopped chicken livers, corned beef, smoked whitefish, matzoh ball soup, stuffed cabbage, Reuben sandwiches) as well as every comfort food classic you can imagine. Roast chicken, meat loaf, spaghetti with marinara sauce, and a couple dozen other entrees are served for lunch and dinner, with only about a $1 price discrepancy from afternoon to evening. Breakfast is served all day. The adjacent bakery serves all sorts of breads, pastries, and desserts.

Still the best in LA
By Kurtzplg on 08/01/2009
Have been going for years. The crunchy rye bread is great. They are still one of the few delis to pickle their own corned beef....the the rubbery and plastic kind you find at most other delis. Has always been dependable deli for me. Maurice

Just Like NY!
By ValdisG1 on 07/24/2009
As a NY'er there's one thin I know and it's deli! This one has great pastrami and the potato slad and cole slaw are great! I was turned on to the place in the 70's when I was sent out by my firm from NY and was here for 5 years. When I returned in 1999 I went back and it was just like I never left it! Food is just fine and the portions are enough to feed even the hungriest. The bakery has all the pastries you find in NY bakeries and the breads are just as good. I've never had a bad meal there and the service was always excellent.

Late Night Fun
By MotelGeorge on 06/12/2009
Been going there since my Dad worked at CBS in the 60's. Took my wife there recently at midnight and had a wonderful experience. The food was great and we had a fantastic waitress. I wish I got her name because she was very patient and friendly. The food was great and it was a lot of fun. Can't wait to go back!
