Rate and Write a Review Though it's touted as a celebrity hangout, this Fairfax landmark is actually not the best place to stargaze. For one thing, the deli is so busy and the dining room so expansive, you might not spot a celeb even if one were in attendance. For another, the scene is much more neighborhood deli than hipster hang. People of all ages, income tax brackets, industries, and proclivities dine here, and customers pay little attention to their neighbors. Conversation is lively, but high-backed booths give you a sense of privacy. The dress code is incredibly casual, even by LA standards -- pajamas and slippers often seem to be the norm. The menu is vast and includes all New York/Jewish deli staples (chopped chicken livers, corned beef, smoked whitefish, matzoh ball soup, stuffed cabbage, Reuben sandwiches) as well as every comfort food classic you can imagine. Roast chicken, meat loaf, spaghetti with marinara sauce, and a couple dozen other entrees are served for lunch and dinner, with only about a $1 price discrepancy from afternoon to evening. Breakfast is served all day. The adjacent bakery serves all sorts of breads, pastries, and desserts.
