Old School Good by Stirling Belafonte

It's like you stepped into a restaurant from 50 years ago. Even the cash register is old school. And so is the chili, which is a good thing. It's very basic with only a few items on the menu (I suspect the turkey chili is relatively new, and I don't cotton to ************* a friendly atmosphere; there's only counter service, so you're always next to or across from someone. It feels like a blue-collar dive where some suits showing up occasionally. Like the menu and the space, the chili is very basic. They have a few urns from which your chili is assembled: meat, beans, spaghetti, and such. I don’t know why I said "and such." With a little more effort, I could have listed them all. Onions and crackers are on the counter for you to add. I believe they've recently extended their "hours" and are now open in July. I know I went by on a whim the other day and surprised to find them open ordered mine extra wet.

Simply the Best!

If you love chili, then Chili John's is the place. Choose beef or turkey, choose how hot, choose to add a hot dog, tamale, spaghetti, or love it all on its own. Save room for pineapple or lemon pie. THIS CHILI IS SIMPLY THE BEST IN THE GREATER LOS ANGELES AREA!

We lived in Burbank 30 years but moved away in 1995 we miss Chili Johns chili. They mail the blocks of chili anywhere you want. It's pricey and well worth every cent. I can't imagine anyone not loving this chili.

This is in response to those people who think Chili John's is always closed... This is why they are famous for always being closed. :o) Chili Johns is open T-F 11-7pm and Sat 11-4 pm Closed on Sunday and Monday. The funniest part of "always being closed" is that they do close from basically July 4th until after Labor Day weekend, this has been going on since 1945 when the restaurant first opened. The previous owner would go back east on holiday. Well who in their right mind would ruin a good thing! When the new owners bought the restaurant they continued the tradition, the regulars know the schedule, the difference is they take the time to do renovations to the restaurant, new flooring, paint, new roof, etc. A working holiday if you will. It is nice for those that work there because it is a break from the daily routine. For the regulars and die hards, they know the schedule and "stock-up". The restaurant gets too hot in the summer anyway, and who wants to eat HOT chili in 100 degree weather. "Great Chili, great pie, great people & atmosphere" Try it! It is wonderful!
