Home to the first Academy Awards ceremony as well as Judy Garland's many radio shows, The Hollywood Roosevelt is a Hollywood icon on the verge of a comeback. Touting its newly named Feinstein's at the Cinegrill, the hotel is again host to acclaimed cabaret artists and performances. For those who don't know the name, Michael Feinstein is a Grammy-award winning singer known for his sultry renditions of Sinatra-style ballads. Personally perfecting lounge performance, Feinstein set up shop in New Yorks acclaimed Regency Club, the model for his Cinegrill, featuring regular guest vocalists like Tony Danza, Eartha Kitt and Sandra Bernhard. The theme is classic piano bar albeit in the basement of a Hollywood hotel. The location looks better by night, as the interiors are decorated in an eccentric interpretation of New York design -- think mini-Empire State Buildings. Guests dine on a pre-concert meal, a rather expensive one, before enjoying the entertainment from their tables, barstools, or coveted booths. A Cal-French prefix menu is prepared by chef Makoto Tanaka, mastering a mix of Asian influenced dishes like the salmon, ahi tuna, Kobe beef and a yet-to-be-mastered dessert menu. The club charges guests a mandatory cover fee as well as a beverage and food minimum that in all costs around $75 per person.
