Not since lines snaked around the block for Krispy Kreme has there been such anticipation about a retail opening, or so goes the buzz in Los Angeles about the arrival of H&M department store. You'd think the last thing shopping-happy LA needs is another place to drop plastic on wedge heels and skinny jeans. But H&M, a Swedish import specializing in high fashion for low price, is a welcome change in our price-tag-obsessed city. That makes sense in laid-back Pasadena, but even tony Beverly Hills couldn't resist the savings, opening a store in November 2006. The icing on the couture cake? Madonna herself debuted her own line of clothing at the stores in 2007.
