A fitting name for a seaside escape, The Hideout is shadowed between upscale eateries and local beach hangouts in the Santa Monica Canyon. The former Friendship bar locale still attracts its old regulars as well as many other colorful locals and drinking fanatics from all parts of town. Pictures of old-time Santa Monica hung along navy blue walls provide a calming atmosphere to this nautical den while exposed brick sandwiches tiered glass shelves of reasonably priced liquors poured by smiley bartenders. Half-off drink specials run all night long Sunday through Thursday and entertainment varies from karaoke to '80s and Top 40 DJs. Simply furnished with long auburn couches and low coffee tables, the laid-back lounge and deck can seduce you to kick back and remain out-of-sight until you're ready to come out of hiding.
