Palm Grove Motel won't show up on any must-stay lists, but if you're on a budget, the motel could come in handy. It's a basic roadside motel, the type that grew in popularity throughout the '50s and '60s. There's even a wonderfully kitschy sign out front with palm trees on it that's the perfect period piece for Palm Springs. Palm Grove is one of the first motels you'll see along North Palm Canyon Drive as you come into town from the San Bernardino Freeway, and it's just a short distance away from the action-packed stretch of Palm Canyon that runs through the downtown area. There are no luxurious amenities to speak of, just the standard room with a phone and a TV, but the low rates and location make Palm Grove a viable lodging option. -- Denise Fondo
