At one of the most expensive intersections in the not-so-free world, the Regent is a glitzy haven for those who expect gaudy dcor and an even gaudier room rate. Having appeared in such films as 'Pretty Woman' and 'Beverly Hills Cop,' it's no coincidence that the hotel is often chosen to represent Hollywood opulence on film due to its ornate European design and staff well-versed in the school of Grey Poupon. With an elegant dining room and a full range of spa services, including a sauna, whirlpool, Italian villa-style pool and massages, the Regent is an expense account dream. As for amenities, the Regent's no slouch either, with computer and fax lines in every room, as well as a "guest-only" executive business center open 24 hours a day. With 395 oversized guest rooms and an eye-popping 120 suites, the Regent keeps those susceptible to cabin-fever impressed. If you're looking for outdoor terrain to flex your legs, you will not find it nearby -- unless you consider traipsing along Rodeo, curling a set of Barney's bags an apt workout. Otherwise, pilates and yoga classes are available for deep breathers not content with shopping, or stress-induced hyperventilation for that matter. Ultimately, some deem it stuffy, but the Regent remains one of the classier hotels in Los Angeles. -- Gregg Rosenzweig
