A longtime Long Beach staple in the gay and lesbian dance community, Club Ripples features nightly entertainment and provocative weekend events. From the outside, Ripples looks more like an over-expanded Denny's than an ultra hot gay nightclub, but inside the atmosphere is more interesting with its eye-teasing decor. Most guests overlook the low ceilings and kitschy nautical theme, concentrating instead on the serious dancing that unravels within its walls for events like Club Asia, Ole and Club Liquid, along with weekly performance of the amazing Dreamgirls Drag Show and a notorious wet shorts contest that turns the club upside down in wet frolicking. Music ranges from Latin to techno, and the dance floor is impressively expansive. Although drawing the usual smorgasbord of abs and tank tops, Club Ripples is a nice mix of casual and sexy, appealing to Long Beach's diverse social waters. The bar goes all out for annual events like Cinco de Mayo, Halloween and of course gay pride, when it becomes the epicenter of circuit-style parties and events. Drawing crowds locally and as far as Orange County, Club Ripples makes Long Beach nightlife almost cosmopolitan. -- Michael Martin
