Rate and Write a Review Hollywood loves this retro spot. Its location, so close to studios and record companies, guarantees you've seen this place, even if you've never seen this place. It has been used as a location for movies such as 'Apollo 13' and 'True Romance'; TV shows 'Party of Five' and 'Diagnosis Murder' have also shot at the hotel. But it is indisputably the surfboard sign that makes the inn a true landmark in Burbank. The hotel was built in 1958 -- replete with the broad, clean architectural lines of the era -- around the same time that surf movies began to take off. Suddenly, everybody knew what it meant to be a beach bum and spend the day hanging ten. It's not exactly steps from the sand, but it successfully capitalized on the golden surfing image of California when it was built. Bands love posing next to the surfboard sign for album and CD covers. The establishment is very close to Warner Bros., Disney, NBC, Nickelodeon and Universal, so it's an ideal spot for either studio business or vacation.
