Hollywood proper has a shortage of interesting, unique accommodations for the traveler. It seems like most of Hollywood's motels are in strange locations, which perhaps harkens back to an earlier era when one wasn't worried about being mugged or carjacked. Worries like those aside, this conveniently located and predictably pleasant member of the Travelodge chain is really very nice. There's no room service or cocktail bar, but there are spacious rooms with queen beds and pleasing furniture that are a good bet for visitors on a budget or families that don't want the edgy scene of the hot West Hollywood hotels. Featuring an Olympic-sized pool and a free morning paper with a cup of coffee, it's a perfectly fine base from which to explore the City of Angels. The best thing about this motel is its proximity to the Metro Red Line Station at Vermont and Sunset. All that's cool in Hollywood and Universal Studios is an easy and enjoyable ride away on the spanking new Metro underground subway network. -- Blair Mastbaum
