Conceived by Thomas Schoos (designer of Koi's outdoor space), Wilshire has one room with overgrown lanterns that feel like props out of the "incredibly shrinking" films, while the bar area has so many orange votives, they take an hour just to light. In the outdoor space in back, angular tree branches toss their claws about, while the sunken bar is illuminated with a ridiculously cool prop that feels like a construct of Tim Burton's imagination. Food-wise, the New American cuisine is an excellent blend of seasonal ingredients, changing daily at the whim of farmers and resident chef/co-owner Christopher Blobaum. Your nightly selection of starters may include the big, fat, soft sweet seared Maine diver scallops or an inimitable calamari and watermelon salad. Entrees could include organic pork chop, lemon snapper sitting atop a sweet and sour eggplant or roasted halibut wrapped in Serrano ham. Even though these dishes come relatively small, they are exquisitely prepared as though they were contemporary works of art. Like the menu, Wilshire's crowd has a full range of diversity, from the mature to the young and hip.

It was Okay-- Not Great -- Just Okay
By Qutee102 on 08/18/2008
The Ambiance was great, the food was pretty good. Even though the service was lacking. We actually had a large table of 8 back. We were all seat separately within a 30 minute period, in that time our table never received bread nor water. During the whole dinner we never was served bread. We had starters, salad/soup and entrees. Everyone ordered something different and I was the only one who loved my entree (the Duck). The food was seasoned very well, but the proteins were oddly matched with the starches and vegetables. I believe everyone at our table agreed on that. The deserts were not anything to write home about either

SO COZY! and Delish FOOD!
By augelstad on 02/29/2008
I've been looking for an eco-friendly restaurant in Santa Monica that still held excellent standards for their cuisine. I came across Wilshire about 2 months ago for the first time and I have been there every couple of weeks. Their appetizers and happy hour specialty drinks like the pomegranate martinis are fabulous, however my favorite, was having my Valentine's date there. The service was amazing and the food spectacular. The my lamb loin with the bitter green salad I got the side had an amazing fresh organic flavor and the lamb melted in my mouth! I was very satisfied but I decided to spoil myself with a dessert and I got the browned butter persimmon tart that came with coffee flavor homemade icecream. Delish ,DELISH! Would definitely recommend this place to any of my closest friends!

Denny's style waiteresses
By icoa1 on 09/15/2006
We had to wait a long time to get the food. Food was so so. The waiteress was an older lady who should have worked in Denny's . The busboy helped us more than waiteress. In order to dine in outside patio, you probably need to tip the hostess $50 on the side or you should be one of the people they know. They try to push inside seating, bc most customers don't want to sit inside. The room off Wilshire is dark and very cold ambience. For the money you spend, you can find better restaurant with much better service. Service is bad and employees are very rude.
