The small, modest sign outside this restaurant is fooling no one. Chalk it up to the juicy moniker, the central location on busy Pico Boulevard, the fresh-off-the-grill burgers or the power of word-of-mouth advertising -- whatever the reason, there's never an empty seat to be found. Mind you, there aren't that many seats to fill. Less than 20 of them are crammed together at the U-shaped counter facing the grill. If you're waiting to be seated (and you will be, even if you show up at 11PM), there's nothing to do except stand with your back against the wall. Watch the short-order cooks flipping and sizzling your burger with all the speed and flair of a Benihana chef (minus the knife-wielding theatrics, thankfully). Slaver like the carnivore you are as your order moves ever closer to completion, and then pounce upon it when it arrives in all its hickory-smoked, melted-cheese-oozing, juice-dripping glory. Don't ignore the fries, fresh out of the fryer and golden-crispy enough to make you adopt cholesterol as your new religious anointment. If you've got the guts, ignore the hostile eyes behind you long enough to enjoy a slice of pie: banana cream, berry or the almighty apple. -- Lena Katz

Unique Experience
By Kcandjcalifornia on 07/06/2008
My wife and I spend much of the year outside the U.S.A. but, whenever we return to our home in Long Beach, California, we make a point of visiting the Apple Pan as soon and as frequently as possible. The food is superb and, if you want to witness a virtuoso performance in speed and attentiveness, try to get Roberto as your server.

You Can't Beat The Very Best
By Brsilbert on 07/02/2008
I started going to the Apple Pan in 1967 when I started working at Von's across the street. They were the best back then, and they are still the best. Now i live in Camarillo, but I still go back to the Apple Pan every chance I get.

The best!
By HKDONBKS21 on 06/29/2008
Some don't like the wait, no place to sit, no parking, yada yada yada. Then go somewhere else, better for me. The burgers here are worth driving from Bellflower (and further) to eat. The flavor is superb and very filling. Some say the employees are "friendly enough". I don't want a counter guy trying to be my new best friend, serve my food, make sure I have enough to drink and leave me to enjoy my food.
