Craving a hot black pastrami Reuben on rye, piled high with melted Swiss and dripping with sauerkraut? Brent's is the place to order this heart-stopping sandwich and to experience that good old-fashioned food high -- the New York-style delicatessen, complete with chocolate egg creams and Big Apple attitude. Other than a great place for traditional Jewish noshes like blintzes, knishes and kishka, Brent's has soared in popularity over the years due partly to breakfast, with French toast sandwiches, deluxe omelets and hand-cut lox. From an early morning munch to dinners after eight, expect crowds of eager folks schmoozing while waiting for a booth or table at this family-owned-and-operated spot, which likes to treat guests like visiting relatives. If you decide to take a seat at the counter because the wait is too long, you'll get to see the cooks bustling at the grill and the waitresses hustling out orders. Better yet, you also get a front-row view of the restaurant's signature four-layer cakes and the sub-sized eclair.

Great staff, great place
By Bagonjas on 07/10/2008
My daughter--who lives in Westlake Village--INSISTED that we eat at Brent's. I had never been to Brent's before (after the initial visit, my daughter and I visited the next day before we left for San Francisco. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional as was a Brent's family member-owner at the cash register. The food portions are very large, tasty and good. Even the NY egg cream was fairly good (a really good egg cream is very difficult to make--an aside: I own an old fashioned soda fountain in Oklahoma City...egg creams are one of our concoctions which is particularly difficult to make "right").

No complaints, ever

I became acquainted with Brent's deli when they opened in Westlake. I adore their hot pastrami sandwich and crisp dill pickles. Every time I've gone the place is seemingly jammed, but it is not a long wait before you are seated. No one I've been with has ever complained about anything they ate.
