Forget the tired java chains that try (and fail) to replicate true coffeehouse karma. The Dive, (formerly called Highland Grounds) has become known as Hollywood's center of Bohemian activity, with open-mic nights and plenty of live music acts, many KCRW-sanctioned. The laidback atmosphere is conducive to sipping a cup of joe, nursing a Sam Adams or noshing on a veggie-friendly meal from their surprisingly large menu. Two seating areas -- one in, one out -- provide patrons with the options of taking in the nightly entertainment or kickin' it outside to enjoy a smoke near the fire pit.

I went to The Dive on a Friday evening, to my surprise the place was empty and there was a lot of parking space on the side streets nearby (Waring). As I walk inside I see a full bar and some seating, but I head straight to the patio. The patio is spacious with lots of seating. It is enclosed by brick walls but the feeling is great because there is a fire pit, open sky, palm trees, and a cute tree. As I ordered with my friends we all got diffrent stuff. It was delicious from the Garlic Knots, to the Red Chai Tea, to the Cocktail made of muddled berries vodka and lemon. I definetely recommend this place after all the bad experiences with eating in LA ... where restaurants are famous because of hype and not because good food

The Prime Spot for New music!
By theprimespot on 07/27/2006
Michael McCarthy hosts LA's hottest Open Mic. The night goes fast when you only hear one song from ea artist.. This place was perfected during the recent renovation which includes a full bar.
