El Matador Beach takes some effort to get to, but once there you find delicate white sand and beautiful pebble beaches. On busy summer days, the shores are dotted with people peacefully hiding from the crowds of LA. As for swimming, this beach is one of the rare places in SoCal that you can actually jump in the water and still see your feet. One of the Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beaches, El Matador fronts some of the priciest -- and prettiest -- real estate in Malibu. Rock formations and tide pools reveal themselves at lower tides, while the shoreline hides a series of shallow caves and secluded coves. A generous hike in keeps the crowds down, while the chi-chi zip code provides the occasional glimpse of celebs out for a seaside constitutional. Amenities are minimal, but there are a several picnic tables on the bluff overlooking the beach trail, and a few (very) rudimentary Port-a-Potties.

Good place to write a new song, or play guitar for the ocean. Everyone is cool with a chill vibe. Excellent for relaxing with a margarita

Absolutely beautiful beach, perfect for relaxing. I wouldn't recommended for people with children. There's lots of rocks in the sand and when the water comes up your ankles and shins get hit hard with small rocks. The beach is 150 ft down the bluff from the parking lot with two steep sets of metal stairs with the rest being gravely dirt. It's not so bad going down but going back up is another story, especially if you're carrying alot of stuff... cooler, etc.. If you don't plan on swimming and just want to relax and enjoy the view, this is the beach for you. The time we were there we saw a seal pop its head up not too far from the shore and we also saw a pod of dolphins swimming very slowly parallel to the shore for about 5 minutes.
