From the 180-degree panoramic vista of the Pacific Ocean to the soundtrack of the stone waterfall at the restaurant's north end, this romantic retreat oozes aphrodisiac design elements and should feature kneepads on the menu for impromptu marriage proposals. Owned by Jeff Peterson, the talented chef and burgeoning restaurateur (who formed Union in Santa Monica), Geoffrey's/Malibu sits cliffside and has the distinct feeling of a place you might have to travel miles in order to experience. While many of LA's surfside dining destinations boast ocean views, once you arrive you learn those three window-side tables are taken. Geoffrey's, on the other hand, lets the ocean dictate its design philosophy by sprawling across almost 75-percent of the restaurant outdoor patio to maximize views for guests. With a menu as impressive as the ocean view, executive chef Shawn Davis has plucked plenty of surprises from earth's great swimming pool. Lobster, oysters, prawns, swordfish and clams all vie for pole position on a delectable New American menu, but the tasty bay scallops over a foie-gras-speckled risotto is a unique, flavorful highlight. The jumbo coconut shrimp with tomato chutney and Asian plum sauce is a perfect prelude to your main course. Whereas most restaurants could get away with serving up Geoffrey's prime geography alone, Peterson and company spend sufficient energy engaging the taste buds of a highly discerning Malibu clientele. And like a few of the celebrities who visit, they succeed beyond anyone's wildest imagination.

All I can say is wow! I love this place. The food, the service, the view , it's my new favorite place in LA. It was very busy but everyone was so nice I'm glad I didn't read that last review before I went. Can't wait to go back.

A horrible experience.

Worst service I've encounter for such a high-end restaurant. My husband and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary and it was just disappointing. My husband reserved a table a week ahead and requested next to rail sitting. We arrived and we were placed not where we asked. However, there was a couple, sitting next to rail, that were just leaving. Yes, I asked the host if we could sit there instead and she said she will be back. She NEVER came back! Then, we ordered our meal and discovered that their forks were dirty. I had to ask for replacement. We were at end of our meals when all of sudden another couple sat to table next to us and started to smoke! Needless to say, I was enraged. I asked one of the waiters to please asked them to move or something. Nothing was done. I asked to see the manager. He looked at the couple that were smoking but by this time they were done w/ their poison -the smell however, was still in the air. The manager apologized to us and agreed that it’s a non-smoking restaurant--I was like "uh-huh". I will NEVER again go to Geoffrey's. It was a horrible experience, overrated, and service was just plain yucky!
