The flagstone steps leading up to Valentino's front door are bordered by trees and framed by ivy. Vermillion colonnades accent the entry, and a bright purple staircase leads up to the second floor. Inside, things are no less eye-catching. The rooms are outfitted in rich burgundies and russets, with mirrored walls and dramatic lighting. The formally attired wait staff is unfailingly attentive and polite. Valentino is known as much for its wine as for its cuisine. The "wine list" is actually more of a tome; the cellar holds somewhere around 150,000 bottles; and the collection of Italian wines puts everyone else's to shame. The cuisine is a high-concept interpretation of authentic Italian, as conceived by star chef Angelo Auriana. On the seasonal menu, you can expect to find a variety of favorite appetizers like the carpaccio, sublime pastas, and signature entrees such as the beef filet in rich red wine sauce. Another page is devoted to the specials of the day. Entrees range from free-range chicken to fresh fish to imported Italian specialties. A six-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings is always offered. In addition, special themed prix-fixe meals commemorate certain holidays.

Someday if I win the sweepstakes, or mortgage my house, I'll stop in for a plate of spaghetti.

A place in paradise.

Years ago I read in Wine Spectaotr about his place. tried it and have been an enthusiastic fan ever since. I have NEVER had mediocre service ,anything but the best in food and never thought of a wine I could have there. Pierro is fantastic and the Wine Stewart, if it is still Shephano is a joy, though a bit of an imp and will make you spend more than you thought you would. I was saddened to heare the the chef Angelo Arianna left a few years ago, but trust me, this is still the place to take an important client or to celelbrate a victory. Ewwww baby, ewww baby, ewww. ewww, oooooh!
