Consistently hailed by critics as home to the best seafood in LA, Water Grill boasts an exposed kitchen, elegant, high-back booths in the dining room and modern art on the walls. Soft lighting and an intimate table arrangement give out a warm and inviting vibe, and the crowd reflects its business district location. Start your dining experience with oysters on the half shell (six varieties to choose from), and white chowder with Manila clams or Maryland prime soft-shell crabs with salsify puree, which both rear their head on the menu from time to time. Lunch courses include an herb-crusted mahi mahi, a pan-fried Atlantic spotted skate wing and a pan-roasted New York strip steak with pomme frittes and Bordelaise sauce. Dinner introduces four types of caviar, bouillabaisse with monkfish, sculpin and rouget in a fennel-tomato broth and Maine lobster served with root vegetables. Dessert brings a chocolate banana tart and honeydew melon soup. The menus change daily, but for $85 a guest you can have a seven-course tasting menu prepared by the chef which lets one sample all the highlights.

Amazing evening
By ssmusicmom on 01/24/2006
My husband and I love seafood so decided to make the drive to Los Angeles and dine at the Water Grill. Our entire experience was wonderful. We were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary and our 50th birthdays and were treated SO SPECIAL! The service was amazing, the wine spectacular, the food fresh and delicious, and the dessert decadent! A memorable evening!

One of the very best
By nyceolman on 02/27/2005
Two nights ago I took my family there. Before I went and since I had never been, I looked here at the reviews. I know there are some people who just love to hate, so I wasn't worried.

I having been there and tried it now, I have to say it one of the best meals my wife and I have ever enjoyed and the entire experience was enhanced by the waitstaff, managers even the busboys and hostess. The food was the freshest and as good or much better than I have had in a long time. We were fawned over and we were not that dressed up. The waiter recommended a $55 per bottle white wine from Napa that was a huge hit. The Oysters on the half shell were the freshest I have had and by all means try the Wellfleet Oysters if they have have them.

Here's an idea that's sure to make you a hero with your wife. The Biltmore Hotel is right next door with special deals on weekend for ramance packages or whatever they call them. I went and look and what a fabulous old grand dame of a hotel she is. Combine the two, the dinner and a stay at the hotel for that night, and you will be a hero. The hotel is about half priced on the weekends.

The naysayers here may be people who indeed have a bad experience, but it is hard to believe that anything that good could have bad food. I just don't believe it.

I am not easy to please and I was a regular at Valentinos when Angelo was still there, I dine regularly at the French Laundry in Napa, Charlie Trotter's in Chicago and Le Circ in New York.

The four star Water Grill takes a back seat to no other seafood resturant and holds its own with five star big boys.
