Bright and airy, Montana Avenue's Babalu cafe entices passersby with its colorful interior, patio seating and hip patrons noshing happily on fresh, flavorful fare. Despite the Caribbean-themed menu and decor, the spice factor on most dishes runs on the low end, so weak constitutions need not worry. Daily specials for soup, sandwiches, pasta and tamales keep the dining varied, although die-hard regulars swear by the yam fries and crabcakes, washed down with strawberry lemonade.
