For a place with a very Japanese-translated-to-English sound to its name, Beard Papa's makes some deceivingly authentic European-style cream puffs. The company did actually originate in Japan, so its touristy Hollywood location sees a large number of international visitors dropping in for a taste of home. Crispy, fist-sized pastries are constantly being removed from the ovens and rapidly filled with different flavored custards as customers line up out the door to order boxes to take back to work, or for a single personal indulgence. The pastry shell's delicate interior is piped with rich, fresh house-made custard of seven varieties, from a delectable vanilla with Madagascar vanilla beans to caramel, coffee and Royal Milk Tea. Fans of green tea ice cream will love the similar version of puff filling.
