Sharing the national mall in Washington D.C. with Emeril Lagasse, Paul Prudhomme and other top-shelf chefs, SoCal's Ed LaDou showed off his culinary stuff at the Smithsonian-sponsored Folklife Festival, a Food Culture USA event intent on showing off the skills of America's finest cuisine artists. LaDou's specialty, as all of D.C. now knows, is pizza, and the Caioti Pizza Cafe is the place where he regularly makes his magic. His popular Valley pizzeria serves up three self-described styles of pies: Old World (the Mediterranean-style thin crust), New World (the contemporary fusion number) and New York (the sloppy, street-corner favorite), all of which attract worldwide pizza fans on the hunt for an embarrassment of riches. Better yet, he's priced them within range of those who can't break the bank for a night out, as well as those looking for left-field pies made of everything from buffalo to lobster sausage. There are also brunch specials to be had and desserts that could take down a rhino, so don't think he's a one-dimensional virtuoso. If you're into food that will confound your palate, LaDou is your dude.

Wonderful neighbors, GREAT pizza!!
By Dianasboutique on 07/25/2008
We own a business a few doors down from Caioti, and in 8 years we've never had a bad pizza! The salads are delicious, and they have other very well prepared entrees for dinner. I also happened to attend professional cooking school and I appreciate their quality & consistency of food prep. The Wine Spectator ranked them as one of the top Pizzas in the USA.. Find a parking spot and enjoy - it is not FAST FOOD!!

Ed Ledou is Great
By LPDINERMAN on 05/31/2008
The Laurel Canyon location is where I had the best pizza. We are in the pizza business now on the Venice Boardwalk and haven't tried the new location. Ed is a world famous chef known to the food industry. I would give him another try if you had a bad experience. You can't judge a restaurant by one meal. Anyone could have an off shift. Ed is Great!

Excellent food, mediocre service
By BBrownlie on 05/31/2008
I have yet to be disappointed by the food at Caioti. With each visit (and I'm talking 2007/2008), my wife and I continue to try various menu items and specials. The service is a bit too nonchalant, but I find speaking up (politely) when you have an immediate concern gets attention and issues (whether it's drink refills or seating) are dealt with. The waiters/waitresses should be better trained. This is a very casual cafe bordering on "hole in the wall". Don't let that fool you. You are not going to have a bad meal. That being said, everyone has to deal with their own personal taste issues; some people don't like Spago (or substitute the name of your favorite here), which is cool. My taste test for pizza is how well the plain old cheese pizza is made. I loved this one. Parking can be difficult as this specific area is mainly residential with a block of various business establishments (which are worth checking out). Metered street parking is the best bet for close proximity. If you like walking, parking can be found at a small distance from the cafe.

Caitoi the worst food
By Bbutterfly46 on 05/30/2008
I dont know if they changed pizza chefs or what, when I first moved to the neighborhood the Pizza' was excellent, now its horrible dribble, terrible food and menu choices, yet packed on the weekends because Californians dont know good pizza, they think the more cheese the better, in Italy, they put very little cheese and sauce
