Best Indian food in so long
I'm a huge Indian fan, but hadn't really found a lot of places that wowed me in LA or San Diego in recent years. Went to Electric Lotus with some friends, and it. The ambience was terrific, between the DJ and decor. The meal itself was fantastic. I was splitting with a vegetarian friend, so we shared veggie samosas, broccoli aloo and tofu tikka masala. It was all great. Other people at the table had some amazing-looking Tandoori dishes. Some of my friends (while admitting liking the place) say that it's more Americanized, but I don't mind one bit when it tastes that good.
.
I recommend this place for people who have never tried Indian food or who want a watered down version of ethnic cooking. If you want REAL Indian food, this place is definitely not for you. The "spicy" came nothing close to pepper. The rice in the rice pudding was not completely cooked. In fact, it felt like pebbles in my mouth. This place is definitely for people who do not know what REAL ethnic cooking is.
O.K.! But check the bill!
We had lunch here on a nice Sunday afternoon. The layout was dark and private, somewhat romantic. The food did passed the test, not bad but not the best. The dish were hot!!! The "mild" is more of a "will cook in your mouth" hot. Overall the experience was pretty good, the wait wasn't long. The waiter was nice, but the check was totally off by $1-$3 per item. We overpaid like $6 more than what the menu had suggested! Great atmosphere if you're in the mood, but definitely check your bill!
