Although it's a cliche, Mexican restaurants don't always serve genuine Mexican food. Instead, they offer mezclas, a combination of Mexican and American styles that lack the originality and flavor of the country's traditional cuisine. Thankfully, Guelaguetza bucks this trend, offering genuine Oaxacan delicacies that will appease even the most homesick of our southern neighbors. With prices somewhere between Burrito King and Border Grill, and mole no one in this town can match (check out the spicy, smoky tamales in red mole, steamed in a banana leaf), Guelaguetza is one of LA's best Mexican restaurants.

A Jewel from Moctezuma's Treasure (Yeah, that is the correct spelling of the Emperor's name)

Auhentic-Mexican Cuisine, that is the key element here. Yes, prices are extremelly affordable in this place but the cuisine is superb and AGAIN: authentic, as in Mexico. El Torito might have a beautiful "Hacienda Ambience" but cuisine wise is horrible. This is the place to enjoy but but beware because is only for the palates of the true connoisseurs.
