The Scene Built with a creative combination of American gothic and Martha Stewart, the Ivy invites guests to lunch and dine in the shabby chic of a deteriorating garden home. Out on the Ivy's patio, white tables topped with potted plants and candles sit near pillow-lined benches, bordered by a peeling white picket fence. Inside, the vine-encompassed cottage houses more tables, surrounded by smatterings of Americana debris: Flags, paintings and antiques. Fresh grilled fish and soft-shell crab are just some of the Ivy's gourmet specialties being enjoyed by the Hollywood powerbrokers and genteel Robertson Boulevard window-shoppers. While power moves are plotted, Beverly Hills gossip is spread over potent cocktails from the service bar and steaming plates of lobster pasta or BBQ vegetable salads loaded with asparagus, zucchini, scallions and chicken or shrimp. Expensive and quiet, Ivy's slow-growth garden offers a pricey, rustic respite from the city's fast pace. Spotted Here Who's the guy hovering behind that tree across the street? Probably a top-paid photog for one of the tabloids. It's a rare day that The Ivy doesn't have a papparazzo lingering in within 500 yards of its pretty fence. That's because The Ivy remains the lunch-and-be-snapshoted spot in town, which is no wonder; it's on the same Robertson block as some of the trendiest shops frequented by young starlets. Besides from those hungry young starlets, though, who else has dined at The Ivy? Oh, just your basic, everyday luminaries like Tom Cruise, Madonna and Brad Pitt. Can I Get In? Very likely, but don't plan on snagging one of the cherry tables along the picket fence. More often unknowns are seated inside -- way inside.

The Ivy is the kind of place where you don't mention the price because you don't go there for the "early bird special". If you're busting your wallet and complaining about the prices, do yourself a favor and go to Taco Bell or a cheap chinese take-out. Leave The Ivy to J. Lo, and the cast of Friends stars. Actually, you would be surprised to find out how many celebs frequent fast food cheap eats over The Ivy. Get over your broke selves & get real. We all know why celebs go there when they do anyway. BUSINESS! Plus, the ones that go there don't have anything better to spend their cash surplus on. Designer bags to carry your miniature pooch in, $500 hair cuts, Diamond-encrusted trash canisters, tropical fish aquariums for their Hummers?

LA Snobbery at its Finest
By hcs12ne64 on 03/22/2006
What an awful experience. We were in town from Boston and tried to stop by for lunch. The day we went was raining and I had a wind breaker and a hat on as I walked up to the host table asking for a table. The person in front of me was told there was a half hour wait, so I though it would be no big deal. Well I asked for a table for two and the host tells me "sorry, we're full". I didn't really hear him well so I asked again, "two please". He rudely replies, "Im sorry do you have a reservation?" I just tell him no, that's what Im trying to do! He just tells me again in a concieted tone, "Sorry, we're booked". If they have a dress code, fine, just say so, dont be a jerk and lie right to my face. Its not like everyone there was wearing suits and dresses, just regular business casual attire, which I had on under my jacket. My wife and I just wanted to eat some lunch, not to be in the gossip rags in the supermarkets. Maybe I just dont "get" the whole celibrity obsessed LA scene, but Ill stick to the East coast, thank you very much. If I could rate it lower, this place would get -*****, but one * is as low as I can go

A great experience!

I went to lunch at The Ivy last summer...when we got there, they didn't have my name...and I had called the day before. But ok, they had a spot inside for my friend and I. We ordered lunch, sodas and cookies. It was nothing too expensive (compared to where I am in NYC) and the food was pretty good. I will say that the service was AMAZING...and I am not a celebrity at all. Our waiter was so nice and offered the best service I have ever experienced. I would highly recommend visiting the Ivy. We also saw Jennifer Lopez shopping for sunglasses on N. Roberston before and Eva Longoria getting out of her car after...so it was even better than I could have expected!!

Parking Concerns
By jimbabi2 on 02/16/2006
Generally I really enjoy The Ivy. The staff does a nice job and the food is pricey but good. Tonight I was disappointed though. We had a very nice dinner which was enjoyed by all. I had valet parked my car when I arrived and after dinner I naturally asked the valet to retrieve my car. The valet is at the entrance to the restaurant. The car arrived by the valet and I parted company with my dinner guests. As I was driving home I noticed a piece of paper attached to my windshield. I thought it was the valet parking information. At a red light I pulled the paper from my windshield, much to my surprise it was a citation from the City of Los Angeles for a parking violation. I called the restaurant to ask how this could happen. They informed me that it was not their responsibility and provided me with a number to call. I was surprised that they expected me to understand how it was not their responsibility and I should not be upset. Needless to say I am upset that I did receive a parking ticket and I now have to spend my personal time trying to resolve the issue. Is it worth the hazzle of continuing the discussion with the restaurant, well, no it is not. Will I return to this restaurant again, What do you think?
