Minestraio is Gino Angelini's traditional style trattoria specializing in the cuisine of Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. The name is derived from the Italian word "minestra" refers to pasta and soups. The one page menu lists 20 pastas, over half of which are hand-crafted and a selection of antipasti and secondi such as rotisserie chicken and rib eye steak. Minestraio is a family-friendly restaurant and children are welcome and encouraged. Minestraio uses rich tones of rustic orange and chocolate, faux finishes and added wooden beams to create the sense of nostalgia and warmth reminiscent of the traditional Italian trattoria.

very good!

The roast duck with orange sauce was fantastic and a good enough reason alone to go back - one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten! The pastas were also very good, although I wish the portions were a little bigger. Desserts were OK but forgettable.

la terza, not la terrific
By mediaate on 09/19/2004
Precious, pricey and pretentious service (except for the exasperated manager) in a cold, sterile environment; quite the opposite of it's flamboyant, warm predecessor, CAVA. Dining al fresco? A holding pen for cows has more warmth; the fenced in box of a patio entirely closes off the excitement of the burgeoning Third Street people scene -- unless perhaps you've had enough to drink to forget about anything outside or you are in shock over the bill. I also question the reviewer's knowledge about what is "obscure or not" since the best element of the menu is the straightforward, clean food.
