Writers, students and artistic types come here for nourishment of the body and soul -- although it's hard to say whether the bustling ambience inspires them or just distracts them from the work at hand. Whatever the case, some tables are always piled high with papers, laptops, coffee cups and other props that scream "Fertile minds at work here!" At other tables, people engage in earnest conversations about everything from the dessert selections of the day to the latest indie film premieres to world politics. Behind the counter, employees zoom about with just the right combination of haste and nonchalance. The ambience would probably make the place a hit even if the food weren't anything special -- but in fact, it's on the far upper end of cafe fare. Bread is fresh-baked, chicken is free-range, and much of the produce comes from local vendors. Desserts are to die for. Breakfasts are hearty but low on grease. Espresso drinks and tea are yummy, but those who know good Joe will be best pleased by Literati's smooth, rich regular blend. -- Lena Katz

Great Place
By malikili on 04/24/2007
I have eaten on both sides of this place and enjoy it every time. The food is very consistent, which is always something good to count on. The restaurant side is okay as well. I really enjoy the ambiance. The only downfall is that the servers aren't as attentive, I always have such a long wait in between waiting for something. Other than that, Literati is a nice cafe.

Organic Coffee thats hot
By patywgn on 06/13/2005
I love this place. Not LA at all. Their coffee is organically pure and delicious with breakfast all day. The food is fresh and a good price. (The chai is so real, I'm having withdrawal from the artificial sweetners and preservatives at my old place.) People watching is best- the place is filled with hotties.

Delightful!

What a delightful place to have lunch! The inspiring atmosphere manages to be relaxing and energizing at the same time. A great place to work or catch up with a friend over lunch. I reccommend the Turkey Asparagus Affair sandwich! Truly original.
