Mel's Drive-In   

You're almost guaranteed to spot Hollywood stars at this venerable diner made famous in the film 'American Graffiti'. Punk rock waitresses serve up shakes and malts (don't miss the black- and-white milkshake) and the sunny patio stays packed day and night because of the great view of the Strip. Breakfast offers steak and eggs, a hearty waffle and the Elvis scramble (jack cheese with green chile peppers). There are more than 10 types of burgers with favorites being the chiliburger, patty melt on grilled rye and the Sunset burger topped with avocado and crispy bacon. Blue-plate-specials change daily, but chicken pot pie, meatloaf and fish-and-chips are always on the menu. Homemade berry pies and fresh strawberry shortcake hit the spot. -- Victoria Namkung
