Head Chef and Owner Sandy Gendel fuses organics with art, and community with luxury in his treasured progeny--Pace. True to its namesake, this Laurel Canyon sanctuary is a cozy and serene approach to refined Italian cuisine. Pace's rustic menu features classic pasta dishes, original salads created with seasonal produce, to-die-for entrees, and inventive ciabatta-crust pizzas. Gendel handpicks his organic ingredients from local farmer's markets twice a week so that "each morsel travels from the farm to your mouth in less than three days . . . and is infused with the care afforded by organic cultivation methods." Genuine care is also given to Pace's guests, who are greeted at their tables with toasted almonds and sublime Calabrese olives to awaken their taste buds. At Pace, the farmer's markets are valued not only for their superior fresh food, but Gendel also remains committed to supporting the local agriculture community.

Not for romance.

The only reason I am giving this restaurant two stars instead of one is because I had a wonderful desert. Everything else about my experience at Pace was sorely disappointing and lack luster. My boyfriend and I were trying to find a place to have a romantic dinner for our two-year anniversary. We called to make a reservation two days ahead of time, told them it was our anniversary, and asked for something romantic and private. We were assured we would be given something relatively special. They put us at a tiny table against a wall sharing a booth with another couple whose table was not one foot away. The food was nothing special. IÂm pressed to even remember what I had. My partner and I are usually pretty Âgo with the flowÂ but I have to say that Pace just kind of let us down. I wish they had cared a little more about us since we chose them for our special night.

Eat Somewhere Else!

I have never written a restaurant review before but felt compeled to do so after visiting at this spot. Despite reservations we had to wait almost a half hour (I understand busy but how about smiling at us or letting us know when you think you will seat us). The staff just ignored us the whole time we were waiting. We brought our own (non-alcoholic wine) and were promptly told by the waiter and confirmed by the manager that the corkage fee is $30.00 (what?). We asked if we could order non-alcoholic wine and they said they had none. The food was so so and the service I'd give a big fat poor. My recommendation is stay away, wait for them to fail and then lets try the next owner to see if he or she understands customer service. Buon Appetito--somewere else!

GOING DOWN HILL - FAST!

Pace used to be one of our favorite places to dine. Tonight we dined there and it was such a bad experience on many levels - I came right home to write this review. The portions have been reduced and the artful flair lost, the vegetables tasted frozen and out of a bag, we could hardly understand the waiter and after 3 times of repeating the specials we finally gave up trying to understand him. We were given a table looking into the "back of the restruant" where we could see the busboys and back help scraping uneated food into filthy trashcans after waiting 45 minutes with no where to stand after we had a reservation. This is my last time there for sure!!!
