If you haven't eaten at La Brea's landmark hotdog stand, you've certainly seen the throngs of hipsters, skaters, transients and executives queueing for franks like the sour-cream laden Martha Stewart dog or the Matrix Reloaded, which is three hot dogs in a mondo tortilla, plus three bacon slices, three slices of cheese, plus onions and chili. In short, everyone in LA is pink about Pink's. Talk about a populist, pluralistic dining experience! Look for the goldmine stand to start stumping for a spot in Sacramento within the next year with the campaign slogan "leave no frank fanatic behind." The Pink's dog is ripe, flavorful, fattening -- everything a proper hot dog should be. So why the hysteria? After all, dozens of stands serve up dynamite dogs and don't attract lines of limousines at off-hours. Could it be the homemade chili sauce? The turkey alternative? The prime real estate? Scholars and researchers may write the craze off as one of the universe's enduring mysteries. In the meantime, if you're in search of a 2AM artery-clogging link or burger, you know where to line up and wait. -- Jeremy Horelick

Flacid Dogs and Nasty Chili
By Madpinto21 on 11/16/2008
I find it so disheartening to see Pink's on the top of the "best of cheap eats in LA" list. Pink's has long lines, slow service, and tasteless food. If a boiled, rubbery piece of flesh with a glob of gelatinous chili gets your mouth watering, then by all means wait 30 minutes with all the tourists, drunks, and aesthetically challenged for your belly bomb.

Pink's reputation is better than it's hot dogs!
By Emale802 on 11/08/2008
I love hot dogs. I've eaten them all over the country. I'll seek out anyplace I've heard of that serves a good hot dog and give it a try. Pink's unfortunately didn't live up to the hype with my taste buds. If you eat the hot dog by it's self you will discover that it has no taste. It has a little "snap" from the casing...but no taste. The taste comes from the toppings that you order and most of those were bland as well. Sorry Mrs. Pink. I get a kick out of watching the limo's and you dressed in the pink coat directing people outside the stand but the dogs just don't do it for me. I'm only one person and that's my humble opinion.

Good things don't change!

Hey I went to Hollywood High in the sixties and we hung out at Pink's (well and Tommy's) whenever we could. Lines were shorter but the game was the same. It was worth the wait then and still is.......it's a complete deal, not just a meal! The local scene is better to watch than waiting in some lines with a TV going to keep you quiet!! Bring a frisbee, a camera and some patience and make it a fun time!
