Saddle Peak's highs and lows
By Rcalvinmilam on 06/17/2008
I've eaten at this joint many times over the years. The first apricot souflee' I had there knocked me out it was so good, and I've had generally delicious entrees, mostly game birds. But it's adventurous eating; so you might strike out once in a while. Usta hafta wear a jacket and tie, but that's no more., according to its Web site. Atmosphere is Aspeny, reminescisent of the Jerome Hotel. Bar is way cool ,what with a bunch of fancy pistols that belonged some famous pistoleros. Yeehah, damn fine food. Costs a pretty penny tho.

Exceptional

Disregard the "recent" negative reviews. Saddle Peak Lodge is an absolute treat. If you're looking to get as far away from Los Angeles as possible by driving half an hour, this is the place. You feel like you're in a hunting lodge secluded in the middle of the Yukon Territory. Not to mention the Elk was possibly the best red meat I've ever had the pleasure of sinking my teeth into. You will not be disappointed. The only possible downside was that in all the dinner lasted two and a half hours, but this was intentional and the atmosphere is such that you are in no hurry to get out the door anyways. This place deserves every official accolade it receives.

I was expecting the world, but they didn't deliver. The food was fine but I expected great. Maybe the chef was out sick.
