Great, fresh sushi
By jvrussophile on 10/04/2006
I go to Sushi Gen about once a month - the quality of the sushi and sashimi can't be beat. Not much in the way of fancy rolls, but the the assortment of fresh fish seems much broader than elsewhere. It gets very crowded in the evenings - go before 7 if you can.

fresh, authentic, inexpensive

not such a hipster place, but the food is good - sushi is sooo fresh, and for the amount you get and the prices, can't be beat in our little overpriced LA

Good, but NOT better.
By kentatus on 08/29/2006
Great vibe and ambience, that's all I can say, and for the sushi, there are much better joints elsewhere. You get mini pieces (I hate miniature bite-size nigiris) for the amount of money spent, it's not worth it. I read in citysearch.com where someone had mention that if "You've decided on sushi so don't bother complaining about expenses. Good sushi is expensive period!". Well, my friend, you haven't been around long enough to taste real sushi and good sushi does NOT have to be expensive, you want expensive sushi? Go to 'Sushi Roku', tell me if that's good sushi for being expensive. Now back to Gen: as for the service, it was great as usual and it's always fun to be there because of the lively setup, other than that, there are dozens of great sushi joints in the greater L.A. area, including some top-notch ones in Little Tokyo, seek and you shall find!
