For a quick, guilt-free meal, you no longer have to run around like a free-range chicken with its head cut off. Serving delicious food and a better conscience as their specialties since 1989, the first Urth Caffe spot in West Hollywood proved that natural ingredients and "cage-free," vegetarian-fed animals can, and do, make for a satisfying main course. Shunning the meatier, poly-saturated, cholesterol-enhanced options on the farm, the second Urth has the same menu as the first, serving a bevy of organic and chemical-free sandwiches, salads and desserts. On a boutique-ridden stretch of Beverly Drive, batches of health hounds stop in daily to spike up on Spanish lattes and "divine" spice chai in between wedding gift purchases, while the more meal-oriented fuel up on an apple wood-smoked bacon and leek quiche or Urth's trademarked organic granola. For lunch and dinner, the grilled cilantro chicken breast sandwich is popular and quite suitable as is the more decadent vegetarian lasagna. And, really, there's no better way to finish off some vegetarian chili than with a piece of the fantastic Oreo cheesecake, which does a wonderful job of impersonating something much worse for you. The Beverly Hills location enjoys a more charming brick-lined exterior than the WeHo spot, but the clientele is perhaps less "left leaning" and more Martha Stewart, as they settle in next to the mosaic-tiled fireplace on polished wood flooring. Although lines at the counter can form to somewhat impatient proportions, the outdoor porch area seems easier to navigate through than the bustling 'who's who' fest at the Melrose spot.

Crowded place full of rules
By ssuttonlion on 08/12/2007
Not your LA-relaxed cafe. Rather, it's got more rules than a Catholic school--watier are in your face about everything unless your a celeb--though they don't seem to come here much anymore now that it's a crowd scene. Apparantly, one rule they don't have is regarding swift service. Waited fifteen minutes after paying for my cappucino last time I was here. Give it a miss, unless you like overpaying for bad service.

By mrsslim1999 on 12/20/2006
This place is vegetarian friendly and the desserts and lattes are the best...try the lemond popie seed loaf. This is also one of those trendy celebrity-spoting places...i dont know if thats good or bad!

Skip the food..
By justineatso on 10/16/2005
I had the curry chicken sandwich which was fresh, but nothing extraordinary.. I've had much better curry chicken at 'Simple Simons' in Riverside. Nothing else on the menu looked appetizing to me.. and after sampling the sandwich, im not doubting everything else is probably below par. The food is average and overpriced.. and honestly, organic doesnt taste any different to ME. My friend had the clam chowder which was tasty, but REALLY watery. The only thing i liked about this place were the desserts!! They have huge slices of thick, mouthwatering poundcakes, cheesecakes, chocolate cake, and pies! The next time i need to put on 5 lbs. quick.. im coming back here!!
