Espana Mediterranen Cuisine   

Although I've been a rather frequent diner at España, the service has declined markedly in the last few months. It's not that the restaurant staff, once one is seated, isn't adequate, in fact they do very well, as it is the fact that there's no one in charge it seems nor is there a consistent way to make reservations A recorder answers ther phone asking for you to leave a message advising when you'll arrive and that they'll call to confirm the reservation. The problem is that there's no one to return your call to confirm the reservation which you've made using the message machine. The result: twice in the last week I've called, made reservations, and arrived to find no reservation nor an available table nor had anyone listened to my messages on the phone. Although I enjoy the food at España, the small service details, like half filled wine glasses straight from the bar and formerly hot bread that's now become warm toast, are failing to be attended to. It's these items, among others, that set apart run of the mill restaurants from the really great ones. España seems to be sliding backward in spite of it's good kitchen and wait staff. I hope it returns to the quality service I remember

If you haven't been to espana, you should, the service is outstanding, along with the menu. What I really liked was the live jazz entertainment out in the patio. The enviornment is so romantic. I just love this place

This restaurant and local McAllen folk think this restaurant is more than it is. I heard great things about it several months ago, went there myself and was not impressed. Average food and very poor service. Good music, though. I attempted to make reservations again because my friend wanted to go and lo and behold, their phone number has been disconnected. Poor service at the restaurant and over the phone. Maybe they went out of business? They certainly won't get mine. Not worth the trip. Plenty of better restaurants in the more eastern portions of the valley.

If thiers one place to go for great food,great service, and great entertanment is at Espana. No one in the rio grande valley does it better.
