In 1935, historian David Cohn wrote, ''The Mississippi Delta begins in the lobby of The Peabody Hotel. If you stand near its fountain in the middle of the lobby, you will see everybody who is anybody in the Delta.'' It was true then, and it's true now -- thanks to a complete restoration. People- and duck-watching in the lobby is a favorite pastime of tourists and locals. Yes, that's duck-watching. Their march to the fountain every morning and back to their penthouse each evening is a well-known Memphis tradition. The hotel was even featured in the movie 'The People vs. Larry Flynt.' The Peabody Hotel houses several restaurants and bars, with entertainment offered in The Skyway, an art deco ballroom. The view from the Plantation Roof is unparalleled in the city.
