Don't let the strip mall exterior fool you: Ronnie Grisanti & Sons, set on a busy stretch of Poplar Avenue, ranks as one of the city's most venerable institutions. Not content to rest on the laurels for their pasta dishes (the cheesy Elfo is considered a local treasure), Judd and Alex -- the latest generation of Grisantis -- have reinvented their family's Tuscan-style recipes, adding elegant flair to the mix. Don't make your final decision until you hear your crisply attired waiter announce the daily seafood specials, which often include seasonal fare such as herb-encrusted sea bass or delicately grilled grouper. Tender and perfectly cooked, these fish dinners keep the locals coming night after night. Served on a bed of fluffy risotto, or with noodles al dente, they will fill you up without doing too much damage to your waistline or your wallet. -- Andria Lisle

Family Italian
By Pasqualiman on 07/02/2008
This Italian family chef inspired eatery is well storied in the Memphis area. For those who have heard the Grisanti name know it is synonymous with several Italian restaurants throughout the area. This particular location has never disappointed. A more relaxed dining environment yet refined with many variations of chef inspired Italian family recipes. Although entrees are pricey when compared with most chain restaurants it's important to remember this is a unique one of a kind dining experience with on-site chef inspired creations. The food is very good, well prepared and service has always been professional in my opinion.

My favorite in Memphis.

The specials are to die for. I especially like the stuffed tenderloin, sea bass and the veal chop. I am not sure if these are on the menu because I always order from the specials. Great wine list. You will probally have a wait, but you are welcome to eat at the bar.

Great food, ridiculous prices
By mreisman on 02/26/2007
I really don't see how people can criticize the food. It is very good. I just don't see how Ronnie can get away with those prices. Let's face it, when it comes down to it, it is a pasta joint with fine quality ingredients and very good service. However, we pay for the service with our tips, not him. He should charge more than Pete and Sams, but for heavens sake, should he charge as much for a plate of pasta as Oak Hall charges for a nice wool pair of pants? Once you eat the pasta, it is gone. At least you can wear the pants again some day. I am glad he is proud of his food and his family history, but should Memphis diners have to pay for the name? It really is not the nicest location in town. Get fair on the pricing and we will go there more than once a year. Otherwise, it is a special occasion option for our family and we will likely choose a more convenient and less expensive option.
