After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Tennesse native Isaac Hayes decided to try his other soulful talents by heading back home and going down-home by opening his own soul-food nightclub, and to much fanfare and success. Although it's the hippest, star-studded joint in Peabody Place, there's a casual rib shack atmosphere in spite of its immense size -- 15,000 square feet. The selection of food is scrumptious, from southern-style smoked barbecue -- including pulled-pork sandwiches -- to the Cajun chicken sandwich. The ribs are sinfully soulful, expertly seasoned and joyfully sloppy. If you want to go all out, try the Hot Buttered Soul platter with your choice of side dishes, all accompanied with honey-glazed and jalapeno cornbread muffins. The sweet potato pudding also's a treat. Everything here is good -- the food, the vibe, the music (Hayes himself often stops by for impromptu performances) and even the restrooms are clean and spacious. The music acts represent some top-notch local, regional and national names, and the cover charge is reasonable. Isaac Hayes hosts many corporate gatherings, but the restaurant and bar are also perfect for a good night out on the town for singles and couples, or for Sunday brunch with family. No matter when you go, be sure to try some of the pecan pie.

I have always enjoyed the restaurant. I'm sorry it will be closing. I had a great time there with family and friends.

Too bad Memphians and Mid South residents do not support their own. Too bad they have to destroy instead of build up! America looks at our efforts and thinks why does the Mid South continue to do this to their assets.
