No Miami dining experience is complete without the requisite visit to Joe's Stone Crab, an old-school, yet up-scale, seafood restaurant that has practically monopolized the stone-crab market by reeling in the biggest and best of this South Florida delicacy. There's only one thing to know before going: Joe's accepts no reservations, so you'll likely wait for a table upwards of three hours, unless you grease the palms of the Sopranos-esque hosts with some stone cold cash. Once you've scored that highly coveted table, feast on the house specialty -- stone crabs (choose medium, 'select,' or large) and select a delicious side dish such as garlic-creamed spinach or homemade homefries. When not in a crabby nood, other dinner options like coconut shrimp and certified Angus steaks are equally staisfying. Each year, the quality and breadth of the wine list grows under chef Andre Bienvenu's supervision, but no meal at Joe's is complete without a slice of the famous key lime pie. After waiting hours to eat here, you might as well reward yourself.

Just about perfection. Excellent service, excellent food in a pleasant atmospphere. Stone crabs the signature dish are just as advertised -outstanding . And oh those sides..crisp light onion rings, creamed spinish, sweets. Finally, no better key lime pie anywhere!

#1 ???

Although good, far from deserving the #1 rating. Its stone crabs, stone crabs that can be purchased at a fish market or farmers fair. Aside from that, the other dishes are marginal. While it is a destination location, I do recommend the experience. Afterall, the crabs are pretty good, but pack your wallet, PRICEY PRICEY PRICEY. Joe's Take Away is a much better value. Located next door, you can enjoy crabs or light fair in the deli environment or take away to your home, party or picnic on the beach.

If you have to wait three hours-plus for a table or grease the palm of a host to get seated in two hours, and then pay Joe's prices, you're better off somewhere else. By the way, the "grease" is not $10.00. Try $100.00 if you expect to avoid sore feet. People go to Joe's so they can say, "I went to Joe's." If Joe's is so good, and so crowded, it would open another location. But that, of course, would diminish the cache of the place.
