Is Boom really as friendly as it seems?
By crushmaster007 on 10/04/2004
Boom may be the bad apple of Milwaukee's gay hangouts. In several visits, the staff have been found to be rude and self-centered. High prices without high class? Yes! Don't expect to pay $8 for a drink and get good service, you're just going to pay $8.00 for your drink and get treated like you paid $1.00 for it. Boom also seems to be catering the uncomfortable "meat market" of Milwaukee. Don't expect to come to Boom and be respected, in one visit alone I had to contend with more than enough "tacky". What's the worst thing about Boom? The staff. In several visits by several reviewers, it's been proven. There are plenty of other much better hangouts in Milwaukee.

I found BOOM to be an entertaining, relaxing atmosphere where the bartenders were very hospitable. Being a visitor to the area, they went out of their way to make me feel at home and one even took me on a tour of the town...what hospitality!!

Very Friendly Staff at Room
By corybroker on 12/31/2005
I was shocked to read the review from someone who didn't like the staff at Boom. I have to ask myself if there has been a turnover in staff, because the bartenders there took a genuine interest, and were very entertaining. Not to mention, there was never a dirty ashtray; they emptied them continuously, and were very attentive. And I don't know what this person ordered, but my Jack Daniel's and Diet Coke was $4.25, not $8.00, although someone in our party did order a very generously sized martini and it was $9.00. I thought that seemed reasonable for a city the size of Milwaukee. The bar was spotless, and so were the bathrooms...finally, a (gay) bar that doesn't look like it should be on the health department's frequent violations list! I would be inclined to say, give Boom (and it's sister bar that I visited, The Room) a try. It sure beats sitting in the other dumpy bars in Milwaukee amongst peanut shells, filth, outdated decor and tacky disco balls.
