The cosmopolitan cats behind Fuel and Comet coffee shops have officially brought loungecore to Milwaukee. When people talk about the hip Brady Street, they point to this multilevel plush palace as a prime example. Luckily, the Hi Hat concentrates more on the glamorous side of life in the Cocktail Nation, serving classic mixed drinks (metropolitans, side cars) and a light menu of starters, pizzas and sandwiches while jazzy, sultry tunes float in the background. Hi Hat is as hipster chic as Milwaukee gets, but it's still pleasingly approachable. Sunday brunch at Hi Hat is a favorite among in-the-know Eastsiders. The mimosas and Bloody Marys flow like a fountain as patrons sample from a menu full of inspired takes on traditional fare. The Lounge Burrito, with black beans, cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs, and the Green Eggs and Ham are highly recommended.

Horrible. Possibly racist.
By iluvmilwaukee on 01/26/2008
I used to think this place was wonderful. However, the great food and drink can not overcome the absolutely horrible service. We sat at Hi Hat for an hour and a half and only saw the cocktail waitress once. The only way we could get her attention is by standing up and acting like we were leaving without paying then she paid attention to us. In the past service as been better, but I have had other negative experiences. Every time I have a negative experience seems to be when I am with my friends who are non-white. I don't know if they are racist or if the service just sucks, but either way avoid this place it is not worth the trouble.

What a find! THis place is off of Brady Street, apparently the Wicker Park of Milwaukee. The ambiance was great, playing Portishead on a Sunday morning for those of us nursing a hangover. Wonderful bloody marys and SPICY if you want them that way. Great genuinely friendly staff, and cool surroundings. I had the grits which came in the form of a pinwheel served over an amazing sauce with sundried tomatoes and something i can't even remember now that was delicious. My guy had the crab cakes benedict and it was delicious too. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but we sat inside to be out of the Sun (hangover). I would go back in a second. The best thing about Milwaukee is that it's small enough that you can pretty much get anywhere in 7 minutes. Even if you're staying downtown, you need to take the drive to Hi Hat.

The Sunday brunch was wonderful, but we left the HiHat smelling like cigarettes. I'm really sorry to say, but, we won't be back as a result of the stench.

This bar is great... especially in the summer when you can sit outside. Classy atmosphere and a great place to people watch and talk.
