Nestled in the Landmark Building in The Historic Third Ward, Coquette Cafe serves up authentic bistro fare in warm, casual surroundings. "We wanted a place where guests could pop in any time of day for everything from French Onion Soup and Flatbread Pizza to Crisp Provincial Roast Chicken," say co-owners Angie and Sanford D'Amato. Whether it's cozying up to the bar for a glass of provincial French wine or exclusively brewed French ale or having dinner or a small banquet in one of its three bustling dining areas, the D'Amatos and staff are eager to accommodate one's every need. Although brand new in February of 1999, Coquette's informal decor blends well with its vintage surroundings. The dark wood, mirrored back bar and glowing gold walls invite you in to experience top quality and unassuming fare that you might find in the home kitchens of French grandmothers.

A cool little restaurant
By reggievespa on 09/02/2006
Being from Chicago and having eaten at some of the best restaurants, I was skeptical that we'd find anything decent in milwaukee, I was wrong. The town certainly has gone through a renaissance since I was there for school field trips in the 1970s. Coquette Cafe was the perfect combination of great ambiance and delicious food. The escargot was one of the best i've had, and although we didn't order the pate plate, the couple next to us did--it looked really good. Our dinner was good and the creme brulee perfect. We'd definitely go back. The crowd was a good mix of young and old. It was a nice choice.

one of the best!

Coquette Cafe is by far my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee. The food is very good, and the price even better! The atmosphere is youthful, fun, and cozy. The lunchtime crowd tends to be businessmen and women, along with some couples. At night, however, it warms up to families, couples, and others just looking for good food in a pleasant atmosphere. Great date spot! I recommend to all!

I'm vegetarian, my spouse is not. This place always has something to please each of us. We both enjoy fine wine, and they have that, too. Sanford's is a fine, occasional treat, but I enjoy this casual place more, and much more frequently.
