Estate   

Perhaps more than any other jazz club in Milwaukee, the Estate -- or Jazz Estate -- has a tradition of bringing jazz legends and hardcore jazz fans through its doors. In 1999, after the Estate closed its doors (subsequently the subject of much gossip), Milwaukee's jazz scene was looking less than scintillating. But with the reopening of a refurbished Estate and other snazzy new jazz clubs such as Caroline's, things are looking up. Although the Estate looks the same on the outside, its interior has been substantially redone, and it mostly looks better, if a little self-consciously trendy. The band now sits in the center room rather than the back, which makes much more sense. The crowd has gotten younger and ditsier, but with luck the talented artists of old will continue swinging through.
