When it opened in 1928, this Hilton wasn't a Hilton -- but it's always boasted the luxury expected from that chain. With a marble lobby, sparkling chandeliers and an exterior carved with art-deco designs and floral accents, this hotel displays its history proudly -- and a 1995 renovation has brought it up to modern standards. Posh suites offer some lovely amenities, including an in-room Jacuzzi (suites only), as well as sumptuous furnishings. When it's time to eat, visit the Milwaukee Chophouse, the hotel's premiere restaurant, or socialize at the hotel bar, The Miller Time Pub. But perhaps the most surprising amenity the hotel offers is one for the kids: an on-site water park. Make a splash at the hotel's Paradise Landing for tropical pleasures in the dairy state. -- Kay Peterson
