Rate and Write a Review Located in the museum center alongside Discovery World and the Humphrey IMAX Dome Theater, Milwaukee's human and natural history museum was created in 1882 from some 20,000 objects and specimens in the collection of the Natural History Society of Wisconsin. It has now grown to six million objects and specimens. The museum includes exhibits devoted to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Arctic, South and Middle America, the Costa Rican rainforest, dinosaurs, Native American culture and Milwaukee history. The European Village, perhaps the museum's most well-known exhibit, re-creates homes and shops as they would have appeared in the late 1800s and early 1900s in all corners of Europe, from France to Spain to the Ukraine. A dramatic two-story rain forest re-creation occupies 12,000 square feet of exhibit space and includes an elevated walkway through a simulated forest canopy. Temples, Tells and Tombs spans thousands of years and explores the ancient societies of Egypt, Rome and Greece. The Puelicher Butterfly Wing houses more than a thousand different species of live butterflies and moths. You can get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures as they flutter around you in the museum's glass-enclosed tropical garden.
