The SceneDownstairs, it's similar to the faux-antique Irish pubs that are popping up everywhere. Upstairs, the dining experience is quiet, dark and stylish. With just a candle lighting each table, reading the short menu can be a challenge. Service is friendly and any questions will be answered. The FoodStart off with mussels for a tasty treat: The mussels are plump and drizzled in a creamy garlic-wine sauce. (Note: It's a rather skimpy portion for the price.) All the main courses are authentically prepared and served with flair. Shepherd's pie arrives in a metal bucket--thick, beefy stew topped with mashed potatoes. Corned beef and cabbage is also a winner, with corned beef sliced thin and buttery soft. Try a boxty for something different--it's an Irish burrito, but instead of a tortilla, your filling (some variation on beef and mushrooms, usually) is wrapped in a large potato pancake.

Irish pub?
By dlw72796 on 07/08/2007
The only thing Irish about Mo's is some of the beer and food. It is far from the cozy and friendly atmosphere you find a real Irish pub. You can expect to be ignored if you come in with more than 2 people or a "regular" high spender walks in. The bartenders I have encountered have less personality than a spoon.

I am going on vacation in the month of April and thought I would get an introduction to a bit of Irish culture by first going to the St. Patrick's Day Parade and then take in an Irish pub. The parade on Saturday, March 11th was great. I took loads of pictures and enjoyed the various paraders that marched through. I got such a charge when hearing the bagpipes being played by the Fire Dept. / Police Dept. marching band. After passing through a few pubs with Irish names I stumbled upon Mo's Irish Pub and was greatly impressed. As I stepped through the front door I heard the murmur, not belligerent shouting, of conversation. A pub that can hold a murmur of conversation is definitely a good sign of a fine establishment. After ordering my Guiness I walked about and saw a sea of smiling faces and warm hugs. I heard hearty laughter and the clinking of glasses in toast. Once the live band played and a few celtic dancers started to perform traditional dance, I was assured of being in the right place for a taste of one aspect of Irish culture. My evening concluded with a smile on my face, a few beads about my neck and no memory of those I had spoken with until viewing the pictures on my camera the following day. I don't doubt I shall enjoy my trip to Ireland!

Stop in for a pint. But the review says there are CD stores on the Avenue, there are none. Read OnMilwaukee.com for a local review.

On a Saturday night the place was busy, but no wait at the door. Service was slow and food ok. Prices moderate for downtown. Will try again and hope for an improvement.
