Bombay Sweets is unlike any other Indian restaurant in town. The decor is scanty, with patched-over booth seats, silk hanging plants and a wall hanging of that tacky but beloved object d'art, dogs playing poker. But no matter. The food (and inconceivably inexpensive prices) is what counts here. Every one of the 15 curries is under $4, and vegetarian, as is the entire menu. Unusual breads like Rava Masala Dosa take up your whole plate, or get a basket of crispy fried pooris, served with a welcome yellow potato saute and spiced water for dipping. The restaurant has been discovered by hipsters from the East Side, who appreciate the wallet-friendly prices and uncommon vegetarian items. Local East Asian- Americans stop by regularly for Bombay Sweets' specialty pastries and snacks. Bengali sweets include Gulab Jamun, a dense doughnut hole thoroughly soaked in honey, and Chum Chum, made with a homemade cheese and saffron. Discover it before the rest of Milwaukee does. -- Jessica Zierten

Great food!

I just love this little place. So it has no decor. If I want to look at something I can just get a House Beautiful magazine. When I ear out, my main objective is great food, and this place has it! I have eaten at many Indian restaurants through the years and this has got to be one of the very best!

I also agree with your review. The atmosphere is nothing special, but the food is very good and reasonably-priced. The vegetable korma with cashews, samosa with two wonderful dipping sauces, and the chai (hot Indian spiced tea)are my personal favorites. Don't forget to take home some great snacks too!
