Rate and Write a Review If you've ever tried not eating meat in urban Mexico -- well, holy cow, good luck. Tasty meat options, however, abound. Tacos "al pastor" is pervasive on sidewalks across the country; in the Valle Central around Mexico City, it's tough to walk a block without seeing and smelling the telltale burnt red cylinder of marinated, vertically skewered, slowly roasting pork. Opened by Ruben Herrera in 1987, Jalisco's (named for a state in Mexico) was among the most successful of Milwaukee's early taquerias (taco shops). Now, there are six other locations around the city, but the Cesar Chavez Drive (16th St.) location is still the most authentic. Tasty tortas (sandwiches), breakfasts (try the "divorced eggs"), soups and burritos also served. Hours are 24/7.
