Walking in for the first time, you might feel like you've been invited to a private party. With a quaint dining room that seats only 30, friendly staff and cozy bar, Tess is housed in an old Victorian east of the Milwaukee River on the citys East Side. Cozy with its raspberry-colored walls and soft candlelight, Tess' atmosphere buzzes with lively conversation from the eclectic mix of Eastsiders and North Shore residents it attracts. Behind the bar, more than 30 different bottled beers are showcased, as well a variety of wines served by the glass or bottle. In the summer months, diners can dine al fresco in the courtyard style patio adjacent to the restaurant. Tess' menu shines with worldly ingredients such as steamed mussels with chipolte, coconut broth, cilantro and mint that comes as an appetizer. Entrees ($10-$19) are creatively presented, such as the beef tenderloin served with portabella mushrooms, blue cheese and wasabi mashed potatoes. Reservations are highly recommended at this romantic, date-friendly restaurant.
